Frequency Conversion.

Convert between Hertz, Kilohertz, Megahertz, Gigahertz, and Terahertz frequency units.

Convert between Hertz, Kilohertz, Megahertz, Gigahertz, and Terahertz. Frequency measures how many cycles occur per second, and these converters handle everything from audio signals to radio bands to processor clock speeds.

Frequency conversions explained

Frequency units follow a clean decimal scale. Each step up is exactly 1,000 times larger: 1 kHz = 1,000 Hz, 1 MHz = 1,000 kHz, and 1 GHz = 1,000 MHz. You'll encounter these units when setting up radio equipment, checking WiFi specs, or comparing processor speeds.

Common questions about frequency conversions

What frequency does WiFi use?

WiFi operates on two main bands: 2.4 GHz (2,400 MHz) and 5 GHz (5,000 MHz). The 2.4 GHz band has better range but slower speeds, while 5 GHz is faster but covers a shorter distance. Newer WiFi 6E routers also use a 6 GHz band for even higher throughput.

How do I convert MHz to GHz?

Divide MHz by 1,000 to get GHz. For example, a 3,500 MHz processor runs at 3.5 GHz. To convert the other direction, multiply GHz by 1,000. A 2.4 GHz WiFi signal is 2,400 MHz.

What are common frequency ranges?

Human hearing ranges from about 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz (20 kHz). AM radio broadcasts at 530 to 1,700 kHz. FM radio uses 87.5 to 108 MHz. Cell phones operate between 700 MHz and 2,600 MHz. Modern CPUs run at 3 to 5 GHz.
